After completing chiropractic school in 1988, Dr. Berg devoted many years to nutrition-related scientific research. His passion was fueled by a desire to comprehend his own food-related health struggles.

His signature healthy keto diet and intermittent fasting — a long-term eating plan — is now widely regarded as transformative factor in achieving exceptional levels of health.

Dr. Berg's dramatic improvement in his own health as a result of deeper research into the science of nutrition prompted him to teach his methods to other medical professionals, including as an associate professor at Howard University for a time.

His 2006 book, The 7 Principles of Fat Burning, was updated in 2019 to become the Amazon best-selling The Healthy Keto Plan, based on new research.

Dr. Eric Berg's passion for health extends beyond the Berg Institute, particularly to his hobbies and personal pursuits. According to his own words, "I am constantly searching for the underlying causes of why people get diseases; it has become a hobby." This passion was sparked by his personal experience overcoming the effects of overwork and overeating as a "meat and potatoes kid."

By the time he reached the age of 32, his new knowledge of nutrition had restored his energy and ability to keep up with his wife Karen's hectic schedule and their three active children.

Dr. Eric Berg now values leisure time as one of its rarest and most valuable assets. He finds both inspiration and relaxation in playing his handcrafted guitar and collaborating with Karen to create new, enticing, health-infused culinary delights.

Dr. Eric Berg now resides on a picturesque farm, where he is conducting research on the cultivation of nutrient-dense plants and animals. Karen concurs that everything in the kitchen originated from the earth.
